Coastal Support Services
Coastal Support Services is happy to be the preferred supported living service on the Mendocino Coast for individuals with developmental challenges. Coastal Support Services echo the PFI mission to support clients’ full participation in our community. The individuals served live in their own homes or apartments and approximately 50% of all Parents and Friends, Inc. clients live in their own apartments with various levels of support.
The Coastal Support team supports clients to be as independent as possible. Working with the clients and their circle-of-support team, to develop a plan that best meets each person's "important-to and important-for" goals and needs. "Important-to" examples include budgeting, shopping, enhancing social skills - even going on a dream vacation. "Important-for" supports usually centers around medical/dental needs and living safely in the community. With all support elements, we utilize a person-centered approach.
The service includes a 24/7 on-call number for urgent needs after hours, during holidays and on weekends, with the ability to address the concerns of each individual.
Levels of service range from a few hours of support each week, to continuous support 7 days a week, 24 hours a day depending on the individual needs of each person. When needed, PFI provides around the clock support to individuals living in their own homes. Staff members cook, clean, shop, help with personal hygiene and all daily activities and chores that a person on his own would do. Staff sleeps in the consumer's home and then in the morning helps them get ready for their day, Their daily activity could be going to a day program, work, or school. PFI can also provide 24/7 support to a consumer a few days during the week as to make transitioning to full time in their own place easier.
